Tigervision's 2600 conversion of a little-known Taito submarine shooter.

Polaris was a 1980 Taito arcade fixed shooter in which you steer a submarine firing missiles upward at aircraft while avoiding bombs, mines and depth charges. Tigervision released the 2600 version in 1983. Little is documented specifically about the 2600 cartridge.

What the press said at the time

Electronic Fun with Computers & Games Vol. 1 No. 11September 19832 joysticks
Arcade Express Vol. 1 No. 19April 24, 19838/10

“Now, at long last, Tigervision has produced a first-rate home version of this coin-op staple.”

— Electronic Games, August 1983

“In short, Polaris is challenging, particularly as the speed and number of enemies increase, but, in this case the whole is less than the sum of its parts.”

— Electronic Fun with Computers & Games, September 1983

“The sounds are especially well-done in "Polaris", lending an unexpected air of authenticity to what is, after all, a fairly streamlined simulation.”

— Arcade Express, April 24, 1983

Electronic Fun rated games out of four joysticks.

Low risk. No fakes are documented. Check the Tigervision label and shell against known scans and ask for a working test. The box and manual carry much of a complete copy's value, so confirm both are present.
