Bob Polaro's RealSports volleyball game, among the cheapest carts on the system and on Atari 50.
RealSports Volleyball was written by Bob Polaro and Jim Huether and published by Atari in 1982, with Alan Murphy credited for art. It supports one or two players. Polaro also programmed the 2600 port of Defender.
It is a common cart, and it is on Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration if you only want to play it.
How it was made
Programmed by Bob Polaro and Jim Huether, with art by Alan Murphy. Released by Atari in 1982, with a PAL release late that year.
What the press said at the time
| Computer Entertainer Vol. 1 No. 9 | December 1982 | Graphics ★★★★ · Play-Action ★★★½ |
| Arcade Express Vol. 1 No. 9 | December 3, 1982 | 8/10 |
| Arcade Express Vol. 1 No. 25 | July 17, 1983 | 8/10 |
“Atari really cooked up a good game in their lab this time—and without killing Martians or gobbling dots.”
“this time came up with a winner. Volleyball is in- deed superior to Atari's older sports cartridges in terms of graphics and real- ism.”
“The graphics are excellent, among the best jobs ever seen on an Atari VCS cartridge. It will take most gamers quite a bit of practice before they get the knack of passing the ball around to set up an unreturnable shot, but it can be a lot of fun learning.”
“Entertaining graphics and realistic ac- tion make this sports game a winner.”
Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — stars in most years, diamonds in 1986–87 — comparing each game only with other games for the same system.

Before you buy
Low risk; a common Atari cart and not a reproduction target. Loose carts cost very little, and complete copies are also inexpensive, so a boxed copy is an easy upgrade.
