SNK's racing-meets-RPG launch-era cart, the first Neo Geo game with two-console link play, and among the cheapest to own.

Riding Hero is a 1990 motorcycle racing game with role-playing elements, developed and published by SNK. You can run a worldwide grand prix tour against computer racers, play a story mode in which the protagonist works toward the Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race, or race a friend in versus matches.

It was the first Neo Geo game to support Multi Play, which let two systems be connected through a port on the cartridge for head-to-head races, and that feature was reused in later Neo Geo titles. The arcade game came out in July 1990, and the home cart went on general sale in Japan on July 1, 1991, with a Neo Geo CD version in 1995.

Before you buy

This is one of the cheapest carts in the library, and even a sealed US copy costs little by the library's standards. At this price the board-swap fraud is not worth anyone's time, so concentrate on condition: hard case, artwork and manual. Linking needs a second console, so test the link only if you plan to use it. The two carts cost about the same; the US sealed copy is documented.
