A friendly card-table cart that lets one person play three classic card games against computer opponents.

Royal Dealer, released in September 1982 by Mattel Electronics, with APh Technological Consulting as developer, plays Crazy Eights, Rummy, Gin Rummy and Hearts against one to three computer-controlled opponents. Computer Entertainer recommended it for card players who do not always have company, and called it a good way to learn the games without testing friends' patience.

Electronic Games in July 1983 praised the look of the casino table and the three opponents who smile and watch as you play. It is a quiet, slow cart, but it does one thing well.

What the press said at the time

“Intellivision owners have a treat in store with Royal Dealer. The visuals are good, with a nice rendition of a casino table filling the field.”

— Electronic Games, July 1983

Before you buy

A complete Mattel copy has two keypad overlays, which you need to enter cards. Most copies came with a correction slip covering a program bug, so a copy with the slip is more complete. Prices are higher than for the typical Mattel card or board cart, and the box adds a smaller premium.
