A European-only beat 'em up that Mean Machines Sega called half-finished and horrible-looking.

Running Battle is a beat 'em up developed by Opera House and published by Sega, released in Europe in October 1991. You play a police officer fighting through five levels of enemies.

Mean Machines Sega reviewed it in issue 17 and was not kind. It found the hero stiff and almost unanimated, the backdrops dull, the music awful and the attacks limited to three moves, and said the console was crying out for a decent beat 'em up and this was not it.

What the press said at the time

Mean Machines Games GuideMay 1992OVERALL 54%
Mean Machines Sega Issue 3December 1992OVERALL 54%

“A disappointingly average beat ’em up which falls well short of Its potential.”

— Mean Machines, February 1992

“the trouble is that the poor graphics, slow response time, shoddy collision detection, repetitive gameplay and limited nature of the game spoils the proceedings somewhat”

— Mean Machines, May 1992

“Grab gun icons for a short spell of blasting, or a Power icon for super-speed running capabilities. The trouble is that the poor graphics, slow response time, shoddy collision detection, repetitive gameplay and limited nature of the game spoils the proceedings somewhat.”

— Mean Machines Sega, December 1992
