About Snoopy and the Red Baron

The dastardly Red Baron has stolen important food supplies from the allies during the war. Hamburgers, ice cream cones, popcorn and other tasty treats have been taken by this evil aviator and sharpshooter. Your task is to help Snoopy shoot down the Red Baron and recover the stolen supplies. You begin your mission with four doghouses. It takes eight direct hits to bring down the Red Baron, and for the Red baron to bring down Snoopy's doghouse. If the Red Baron downs a doghouse, all accumulated treats will be lost. Press the controller button to fire Snoopy's machine gun.

What the press said at the time

Computer Entertainer Vol. 2 No. 9December 1983Graphics ★★★ · Play-Action ★★★½
Electronic Fun with Computers & Games Vol. 2 No. 3January 19843 joysticks

“SNOOPY & THE RED BARON is a charming game for kids that most adults will enjoy, too. … In the long run, the game will be too easy for experienced game players, but it should be a big hit with the kids for whom it's designed.”

— Computer Entertainer, December 1983

“Snoopy and the Red Baron, while designed for a young audience, is still a treat for more mature game fans, particularly genteel souls just getting into video game sport.”

— Electronic Fun with Computers & Games, January 1984

“As far as play-action goes, Snoopy and the Red Baron is good but not great. … Unfortunately, this solo flight doesn't soar. It just sort of cruises along.”

— Electronic Games, July 1984

Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — stars in most years, diamonds in 1986–87 — comparing each game only with other games for the same system. Electronic Fun rated games out of four joysticks.

Worth knowing

  • Announced with Charlie Brown. Atari Age announced "Atari's first two PEANUTS games, tentatively scheduled for fall 1983": a Snoopy vs. the Red Baron game, and one with Charlie Brown "trying against all odds to be the hero". Only Snoopy and the Red Baron appears in later club price lists.

Before you buy

Low risk. No fakes are documented. The box and manual carry much of a complete copy's value, so check that both are present. Sealed copies sell above complete ones; inspect any seal closely.
