A CBS Electronics conversion of a minor Bally Midway arcade game, cheap and seldom discussed.

Solar Fox was a 1981 Bally Midway arcade game. Bob Curtiss programmed the 2600 version, which CBS Electronics released in July 1983. Little is documented about the 2600 version beyond that.

What the press said at the time

Computer Entertainer Vol. 2 No. 5August 1983Graphics ★★★½ · Play-Action ★★★½
Electronic Fun with Computers & Games Vol. 1 No. 10August 19834 joysticks
Video Games Player Vol. 2 No. 2November 1983B+

“The game looks simple enough, but appearances can be deceiving—this is one tough game!”

— Computer Entertainer, August 1983

“Here's an interesting mix: a space game whose object is to run over dots. And, as if this weren't strange enough, there's no shooting. None. … There are many unique features in this game.”

— Electronic Fun with Computers & Games, August 1983

“Solar Fox proves you don't have to have good graphics to have a good game.”

— Video Games Player, November 1983

“It may not be eyeball-popping in terms of graphics, but the play value is solid as bedrock, and quite compelling. Solar Fox is a highly recommended 2600 videogame — obviously back where it belonged all the while.”

— Electronic Games, December 1983

Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — stars in most years, diamonds in 1986–87 — comparing each game only with other games for the same system. Electronic Fun rated games out of four joysticks. Video Games Player graded games like a report card, A+ down to C-.
