About Solar Storm

You're strapped in your laser ship, battling fierce Deltoids and Shields. They approach in waves, at faster and faster speeds. Each raider can shoot a single flash of proton energy that comes at you like a lightning bolt. There's no time to waste. And no place to hide. Then, as you carry on the defense, things get much worse. A far-off sun explodes! Fragments from the cataclysm come raining down. Keep moving! Blast almost everything you see! If you don't, heat from the solar debris can destroy your planet. If you prevail, you can move out to the edge of space and attack your foes. Sweet revenge!

What the press said at the time

Computer Entertainer Vol. 2 No. 5August 1983Graphics ★★★½ · Play-Action ★★★
Electronic Fun with Computers & Games Vol. 1 No. 12October 19832 joysticks

“Though it doesn't offer an original concept, SOLAR STORM is an exceptionally challenging game of the type.”

— Computer Entertainer, August 1983

“It looks to me like Imagic has milked the Atari VCS for all it's worth and now has no alternative but to rehash and repackage old ideas under the guise of a new title. … Chances are, though, that you've played it before, only the name is different this time around.”

— Electronic Fun with Computers & Games, October 1983

“The graphics won't leave you breathless, but they are first-rate stuff, and the game plays like a gem. Believe it or not, Solar Storm proves that even a genre as tired as the invasion theme can be made interesting through creative design.”

— Electronic Games, October 1983

Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — stars in most years, diamonds in 1986–87 — comparing each game only with other games for the same system. Electronic Fun rated games out of four joysticks.
