About Sonic Blast

Fully rendered graphics thrust Sonic into an exciting 3D playing environment. An all new gameplay perspective puts you in the middle of Sonic's 3D adventure! The evil genius Robotnik is after the Chaos Emeralds and it's up to Sonic to stop him. Rescue the innocent Flickies before Robotnik turns them into part of his evil plan! Sonic Blast was the last Sonic game for the Game Gear. The game was also ported to the Sega Master System in Brazil by TecToy and released in December 1997, making it the last game ever made for that system. While this game was released at the end of 1996 in conjunction with the similarly named Sonic 3D Blast, it is worth noting that the two games have little in common. No enemies, levels, or bosses, are shared between the games. The story is also completely different. Sonic and Knuckles join together to collect five of a Chaos Emerald's pieces and confront Dr. Robotnik at Silver Castle.

A Brazil-only Tec Toy port of a Game Gear Sonic game, collectible mainly because of where it came from.

Sonic Blast is a platformer developed by Aspect that started on the Game Gear in 1996. This Master System version was released only in Brazil, in December 1997, distributed by Tec Toy. It had to be simplified to run on the Master System because of the console's lower graphical quality.

Despite the similar names, it has little in common with Sonic 3D Blast. It is a Tec Toy official release, so treat it as a regional Master System cartridge rather than a hack.

Game GearAspect
  • Game Gear. The Game Gear original was the sixth and final Sonic platformer on that system.
  • Game Gear. Its pre-rendered visuals came with limits: Sonic and Knuckles have few animation frames, there is no timer, and you lose only ten rings when hit.

Before you buy

This is the Brazilian Tec Toy cartridge, and it came out only in Brazil. It is one of the pricier carts in the Brazil-only group, so ask for a photo of the board and compare it with the board listed on this page. Because the only fully documented Master System fake is a Brazilian Tec Toy cart, it is worth being careful with any pricey Tec Toy release. A complete copy costs far more than a loose one, so the box is the main decision.
