About Speedball
Speedball is a futuristic football-like game which takes place on a steel walled floored pitch, 160 feet long by 90 feet wide. There are two teams, and the team scoring the most goals wins. There is a goal at each end of the pitch and a ball warp tunnel in each side of the wall. The warp tunnels can warp a ball from one tunnel to another. The ball is launched from the center of the pit by the automatic launcher in a random direction. There also bounce domes, off of which the ball will be deflected, but over which players are free to move.

A violent futuristic sports game that is best with two players, and a cheap European cart.
Speedball is The Bitmap Brothers' game of a violent future sport that draws on handball and ice hockey and rewards violent play as well as goals. It began on the Amiga and Atari ST in 1988. The Master System version was released in Europe in March 1991, and cartridges exist under both the Image Works and the Virgin labels.
Computer and Video Games said it was best played with two players, with fast and furious action that the console did not often see. Mean Machines Sega called it a pretty good conversion of the Amiga game, but overshadowed by its sequel, Speedball II. It later recalled that its reviewer thought the game too easy, and that Image Works promptly revamped it to be more challenging.
What the press said at the time
“This is a pretty good conversion of the Amiga title, especially with the tweaked one-player difficulty setting. However, right now it's overshadowed by its successor - Speedball II”
How the Sega Master System version differs
The French magazine Joypad gave the Master System port 90%.
Mean Machines described the Master System original as much simpler than its sequel, with only a smaller, vertically scrolling playing area.
