M Network's 2600 port of a best-selling Intellivision shooter; the Intellivision original is the famous one.

Star Strike was a 1981 Mattel shoot 'em up for the Intellivision, where it was the best-selling game of 1982. You drop bombs on alien weapons silos before Earth comes into range, a set-up inspired by the Death Star attack in Star Wars. The 2600 port, designed by David Akers, came out under Mattel's M Network label in June 1983, and Telegames also published it.

It is on Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration if you only want to play it.

How it was made

The 2600 port was designed by David Akers at Mattel and published under the M Network label in June 1983.

What the press said at the time

Computer Entertainer Vol. 2 No. 3June 1983Graphics ★★★ · Play-Action ★★½
Electronic Fun with Computers & Games Vol. 1 No. 9July 19833½ joysticks

“The game itself is straightforward, and it should appeal to those who like first-person space games. Despite the originality of a game without point scoring, we found it difficult to get excited about this one.”

— Computer Entertainer, June 1983

“Why in the world does Mattel save their good work for Atari VCS games? … Now they make a version of the masterpiece Star Strike that is probably even better than the Intellivision version.”

— Electronic Fun with Computers & Games, July 1983

Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — stars in most years, diamonds in 1986–87 — comparing each game only with other games for the same system. Electronic Fun rated games out of four joysticks.

Before you buy

Check which label you are looking at. A White Label variant is priced separately and sells for a little more than the standard copy, so make sure the photos match the listing. No fakes are documented. Check the label edges and ask for a working test.
