About Star Wars
Star Wars is a first-person shoot 'em up based around the original Star Wars film. You take on the role of Luke Skywalker, aiming to destroy the Death Star - which, as any fan knows, involves attacking the 'weak spot' near the exhaust. To even get to this you have to pass swarms of TIE Fighters. Complete the game and it loops back around at ever-increasing difficulty. The game uses vector graphics, which allow lots of action at high speed on comparatively slow systems.

Prices are per version and are not interchangeable, and neither are the reviews: conversions in this era were often built by a different studio than the original, so a score earned on one machine says nothing about how another plays.

The Atari 5200 version
Parker Brothers' conversion of the Atari coin-op, a rare cart that sold well in the console's last year.
Parker Brothers published the 5200 version of Star Wars in 1984; according to Wikipedia the home conversions across several systems were done by Parker with development by Imagic. Electronic Games said in July 1984 that the home version of the coin-op would follow later that year, on systems including the 5200. Computer Entertainer's schedule had it pencilled in earlier, for the second quarter.
It sold. Computer Entertainer's list of top sellers for game systems carried Star Wars on the 5200 among the top sellers, and Electronic Games' home chart for February 1985 had it at number ten, up from fourteen the month before.

- Amiga. The Amiga and Atari ST versions allow mouse control and include digitized sound effects.

Rated Rare, Standard label, and low authentication risk: no fake has been documented. Parker's 5200 labels are usually blue-green with just the title, so use that as your consistency check. It is a one-player joystick game, so test the stick on your console before relying on the cartridge's condition.

The ColecoVision version
Parker Brothers' ColecoVision Star Wars is the easier sibling of the Commodore 64 version, with the theme playing throughout.
Parker Brothers published the ColecoVision version in 1984, and Wikipedia says the home conversions were made by Parker with development by Imagic. Creative Computing in May 1984 saw versions for several systems, including the ColecoVision, and called them all good.
Computer Entertainer used the ColecoVision game as its reference when reviewing the Commodore 64 version, saying the 64 version was slightly more detailed, used the Star Wars theme only occasionally, and had harder difficulty levels. So the ColecoVision game is the more forgiving and more musical of the two.
How the ColecoVision version differs
Computer Entertainer said the Commodore 64 version is essentially the same game as the ColecoVision one but harder at every level, so players who breeze through the first ColecoVision wave may struggle there.
Parker Brothers published the ColecoVision conversion, with development by Imagic.

Standard controller. The ColecoVision cartridge is a different one from the 5200 cartridge on this page, so check the label. Box and manual are where a complete copy's premium sits.
