A whimsical new medieval fantasy game developed Connie Goldman and David Warhol of Mattel Electronics and published by INTV Corporation for the Intellivision in 1986. Then, through a castle maze with three wicked wizards. Finally to a dark and dreary dungeon where the three demons present your final challenge.

A late maze game that critics liked and that has become a pricey INTV cart.
Dave Warhol designed Thunder Castle, a maze game released by INTV Corporation, with Mattel Electronics in the developer credit. You steer a knight with the disc and use the action buttons to trigger magic items scattered through the mazes.
Computer Entertainer found nothing innovative in it but said maze fans finally had something new, and Dave Beuscher of AllGame later listed it among the best Intellivision games. Computer Entertainer also reported that Atari was negotiating to license some INTV titles, including Thunder Castle, for the 2600.
What the press said at the time
| Computer Entertainer Vol. 4 No. 12 | March 1986 | Graphics ♦♦♦ · Play-Action ♦♦♦ |
“While there's nothing innovative about this game, we found ourselves truly enjoying a maze game again. ... For the first time in awhile, the maze lovers among you have something new to add to your library.”
Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — diamonds through early 1987, stars after — comparing each game only with other games for the same system.
How the Intellivision version differs
Mattel planned to publish it as Mystic Castle, but the division closed in 1984. INTV finally sold it in 1986, mostly by mail order.
Before you buy
INTV shipped no overlays, so a complete copy has none. The cartridge is priced above most late INTV games, and the box and manual add a big premium. No sealed copies are listed.
