About Turbo Sub

Turbo Sub released in 1985 as an arcade shooter game by Entertainment Sciences. Then later in 1991 for the Atari Lynx. The arcade version was a one player game set in the future where you control a submersible ship against a horde of aliens. The Atari Lynx version is the same but can be played with two players and tells us the story is set in the 28th century on Earth. The planet has been invaded and the goal of the game is that the player must destroy all the aliens.

Turbo Sub on Wikipedia

Turbo Sub is a first-person shoot 'em up released in arcades by Entertainment Sciences in 1985. Aliens have attacked the planet and the player fights them beneath the ocean using a submersible ship. Six years after the arcade original, Atari Corporation published a Lynx version, which adds a two-player mode.

A scaling-heavy underwater shooter, and one of only six Lynx games Atari put on Atari 50.

NuFX developed it and Atari published it in 1991. It is a pseudo-3D rail shooter that leans hard on Suzy's sprite scaling, which is the sort of thing the Lynx was built to sell.

Its inclusion on Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration puts it in select company — six Lynx titles made that collection, and this is one of them. The period Lynx FAQ lists two-player support, but notes players compare scores rather than interacting directly.

Worth knowing

A submarine that flies. Electronic Gaming Monthly described the premise in November 1991: you pilot "the Turbo Sub prototype designed to fly in the air and sail under the sea", against an alien armada. It also has, per the same preview, "a pair of handy dandy windshield wipers".
