Prices are per version and are not interchangeable, and neither are the reviews: conversions in this era were often built by a different studio than the original, so a score earned on one machine says nothing about how another plays.

The Sega Master System version
A cheap European football game from Rage that Sega asked for.
Ultimate Soccer is a football game by Rage Software, published by Sega in Europe in August 1993. It was released for the Mega Drive, Master System and Game Gear at Sega's request, and Sonic appears in its menus.
What the press said at the time

| Sega Master Force Issue 6 | December 1993 | 90% |
“With Ultimate Soccer arriving on both the MS and MD, it was interesting comparing the two. The MS version has many of the MD release’s options though the scaling technique isn’t one of these. Nevertheless, the overall gameplay can become fun and very flexible to play.”
“If there’s only one soccer game in your collection, this should be it! It’s the frantic action of the two-player mode that makes it worthwhile.”

The Sega Genesis version
A cheap, option-heavy European football game that Mean Machines found wobbly but fun with a crowd.
This is the Mega Drive version of Ultimate Soccer, a football game by Rage Software that Sega published in Europe in 1993. Sega asked for it to be made for several of its consoles, and Sonic turns up in its menus.
Mean Machines Sega called the game fast and fun, with an unfeasible number of options, but let down by very average graphics, sound and gameplay, with rough pitch scrolling and sprites lacking detail. The magazine's verdict was that it is the one to pick if you can gather eight players.
What the press said at the time
“A John Barnes of a game... an expensive way to learn that in soccer you can pay for the ‘ultimate’ but it doesn’t mean you’ll”
Before you buy
It is among the cheapest European-only carts, so it is an easy cart to pick up. Sega Retro lists it as supporting Sega's Team Player multitap. A complete copy usually costs well above a loose cart.
