About Vectron
The object of Vectron is to construct an energy base, section by section. You add each section by moving your energy block in place and filling it with an energy blast. You must protect your energy block against Hungrees, G-spheres, splits, sweeps, and prizums who can destroy it. Shoot them down with energy blasts or neutralize them with special energy from an E-Pak. Don't run out of energy or you lose an energy block. There are three energy blocks per game. When they're gone, the game is over.

A Mattel shoot-'em-up with invented alien enemies, competent and cheap.
Vectron was a Mattel space shooter released in March 1983. Video Games Player previewed it that fall as a space game pitting you against the Hungrees, the G-spheres, the splits, the sweeps and the prizums.
It is one of the late Mattel releases that never became a name people remember, and nothing in period coverage suggests it was a standout. It is a fair pick for someone who wants a lesser-known space shooter on the system.
What the press said at the time
| Computer Entertainer Vol. 2 No. 3 | June 1983 | Graphics ★★★★ · Play-Action ★½ |
“VECTRON has unusually stunning and colorful graphics; it's a very pretty game to look at. However, we found the game itself unnecessarily confusing”
Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — diamonds through early 1987, stars after — comparing each game only with other games for the same system.
Worth knowing
- From the Intellivision manual. You get three energy blocks per game, and the game ends when they are gone.
- From the Intellivision manual. You can aim and fire in several directions with the disc while also moving the energy block, since both happen at the same time.
- From the Intellivision manual. Free-Style mode lets the energy block move to any position in the base without first building an energy section.
Before you buy
Mattel's copies came with two keypad overlays. Vectron was one of four Mattel titles also sold in multilingual European boxes, so a foreign-box copy is genuine but not a US one. The cartridge is inexpensive; the box and manual carry much of a complete copy's value.
