Imagic's river-rafting game, a pleasant 1983 oddity that has become one of the dearer Imagic carts.
White Water! casts you as a raftsman on a river of rapids. Computer Entertainer's Intellivision review described two basic games with variations: a timed race down the river to the flags, or a run collecting treasures in the forest. Every game begins on the beach, where you race to the raft and shove off with your two buddies.
It is a gentle, unusual title, easier to like than to master.
How it was made
Imagic published it in 1983.
What the press said at the time
| Computer Entertainer Vol. 2 No. 4 | July 1983 | Graphics ★★★½ · Play-Action ★★★½ |
| Video Games Player Vol. 2 No. 1 | August-September 1983 | A- |
“No matter how many games you have in your Intellivision library, you don't have another quite like this one!”
“White Water is an excellent trip down the river. The graphics are great and the sound effects are phenomenal.”
Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — diamonds through early 1987, stars after — comparing each game only with other games for the same system. Video Games Player graded games like a report card, A+ down to C-.
Before you buy
Imagic shipped two keypad overlays, and a complete copy should have them. This is one of the pricier Imagic carts, and the box and manual carry most of a complete copy's value, with sealed copies commanding a large premium.
