About World Cup Soccer
Play against the computer or play against a friend. With the optional ECS Computer Adaptor three or four players can play or two can play against the computer. World Cup Soccer is an advanced version of the original, successful Soccer. It enables you to play with an opponent or against your Intellivision unit. It offers more real life-like gameplay with such added gameplay features as heading the ball, tackling, the option of changing players during game play, and direct or indirect kicking after penalties are called. It's so life-like that you have a full team of players.

A soccer game with a penalty-kick mode that was released in the last gasp of the Intellivision's life.
Nice Ideas developed World Cup Soccer, released in 1986 by Dextell, also under the name Super Soccer. Computer Entertainer covered it in 1986 among INTV Corporation's new Intellivision releases and described a penalty mode in which you take the kicks or play goalkeeper, against a friend or the computer.
With the ECS adapter the game supports up to four controllers and cooperative two-player play. Unlike NASL Soccer, it does not require two people.
What the press said at the time
| Computer Entertainer Vol. 5 No. 4 | July 1986 | Graphics ♦♦♦ · Play-Action ♦♦♦ |
“Intellivision has always been strong in the sports genre and this continues that tradition.”
Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — diamonds through early 1987, stars after — comparing each game only with other games for the same system.
Before you buy
Dextell packaged two keypad overlays with it, so a complete copy has them. It works with the ECS. It sold in North America and Europe, so you may see a European copy. The box and manual add a good premium over loose.
