A best-selling British football game that costs very little as a US cart.

This is the Genesis version of European Club Soccer, which North America knew as World Trophy Soccer and Japan as J-League Champion Soccer. Krisalis Software developed it, Virgin Games published it, and Game Arts published the Japanese version on 26 February 1993. Europe got it in August 1992 and North America in 1992. Matt Furniss is credited with the music.

It focuses on the European Champions Cup and was a best-seller in the UK charts for three months. Mean Machines Sega, in its first issue, called it a step in the right direction for a console short of quality football games, with decent graphics and sound.

“First off, the game’s graphics are excellent. World Trophy is probably the sharpest-looking soccer game to ever lace up its cleats. This cart offers some of the hottest, most life-like soccer action this side of the World Cup.”

— GamePro, November 1992

“Another Kick-Off inspired game, this is still fun to play and the management aspect should appeal to fans.”

— Mega Action, January 1994

“Megadrive soccer games have a history to being quite sad and this effort does little to address the situation. Although the graphics and sound are very good, the gameplay is let down by low player intel ligence, wonky collision detection and awkward con trols. As the (very) old saying goes, "try before you buy!".”

— Mean Machines Sega, December 1992

“Euro Club Soccer fights it out with Super Kick Off as the Mega Drive’s best footy game, but that title will probably go out of the window when Sensible Soccer, Goal! or Ultimate Soccer appears. Wait for them and then make your”

Before you buy

Among US carts it is one of the cheapest. The European loose cart usually costs about the same, while a complete European copy usually costs less. The Japanese cart usually costs about twice as much loose and much more complete, and it is a different cartridge shape. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
