A tie-in to a Tatsunoko anime, with a gun that served as the design model for the Light Phaser.
Zillion is a space adventure platform game that Sega developed as a companion to Tatsunoko Production's Zillion anime. It was released in Japan on 24 May 1987 as Akai Koudan Zillion, in Europe in October 1987 and in North America in November 1987. The series features Opa-Opa, the egg-shaped Fantasy Zone mascot. The gun the player carries was used as a design model for the Light Phaser.
A sequel, Zillion II, followed in 1988.
How it was made
Developed and published by Sega. Kotaro Hayashida is credited as designer and Tokuhiko Uwabo as composer.

Before you buy
Three releases exist: the US cart, the European cart and the Japanese cart. The European cart costs a little less loose than the US one but clearly more complete. The Japanese cart costs more in both conditions, and it is a different, smaller shape that does not fit a Western console without an adapter. Because the US console plays European carts, a box with text in five to eight languages is European. The US cart sits about at the middle of American games loose, and the look-alike risk is low. Check that the manual is there, since it is the part most often missing from a complete copy.
