Nintendo 64 prices, all games & how to spot a fake

A toy-soldier helicopter shooter at about the library's median price, and a decent weekend game for chopper fans.

This is the Nintendo 64 version of Army Men: Air Attack, which carries the title Army Men: Air Combat on the cartridge. It is a third-person shooter in which you fly helicopter gunships over a plastic-soldier war, developed and published by The 3DO Company and released in North America in July 2000.

Reviewers of the N64 version were broadly positive without being thrilled. One called it a fine recommendation for chopper-action fans who wanted a military shooter on the system, while another thought the missions grew mundane and slowdown held it back, with the multiplayer games the real draw.

How it was made

Developed and published by The 3DO Company.

What the press said at the time

“Actually, like Air Attack for the PS-X, Air Combat is a fun Strike rip-off that”

— Game Informer, July 2000

“The latest in the Army Men series has a decent co-operative mode and features some engagingly mindless shooting, but it's let down by problems with the multiplayer. Worthy of your attention, but hardly a masterpiece.”

— N64 Magazine, October 2000

Before you buy

This game came out only in North America, and the fake risk is low. Loose copies sit right around the median for the library, while a complete copy costs well over twice the loose price and a sealed one far more. Nintendo listed the game among those enhanced by the Expansion Pak, which is optional, and the Rumble Pak is optional too, so neither is needed to play. A gray cartridge variant exists, so do not be alarmed if the shell is not the usual color.
