An arcade-style street basketball game that is among the cheapest Genesis carts to pick up in North America.

Barkley Shut Up and Jam! is a basketball game made and published by Accolade, with Charles Barkley as a playable character. It plays in the arcade style of NBA Jam but follows street basketball rules, and the matches take place in cities across the United States. It came out on the Genesis in March 1994. It was originally known as Charles Barkley Basketball during development.

GamePro gave the Genesis version a positive review for its distinctive playable characters, its several game modes and the urban look of each of its seven courts, though it criticized the controls for responding inconsistently. Up to four people can play with Sega's Team Player adapter. A sequel, Barkley Shut Up and Jam 2, followed on the Genesis in 1995.

“Playable basketball game that offers little in the way of real gameplay and tactics. It may be licensed and endorsed by a famous basketball player, but it is just an average game.”

Before you buy

Among US carts it sits near the bottom of the price range, so there is little reason to look beyond a US copy. The European cart usually costs several times as much as the US one, loose and complete. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
