The worst-selling normally-distributed Jaguar game — and one of the few carts with a real outside buyer pool.
By late 1994 Bubsy was already a punchline, and this Jaguar exclusive is the entry almost nobody played: 8,788 copies by April 1995, with only the scarce standalone retail Cybermorph doing worse. Fifteen fairy-tale levels with real exploration, undermined by the franchise's inherited sins — one-hit deaths, speed the level design doesn't support, hazards you can't see until you're committed. That's not difficulty, it's memorization tax.
The collector angle is the inversion: it's the only console-exclusive Bubsy game, which makes it mandatory for Bubsy completionists who don't own Jaguars and never will.
How it was made
Imagitec Design developed the Atari Jaguar version, published by Atari Corporation. Credited: designed by Jody Cobb, Mark Hooley; programmed by Andrew Seed; art by Colin Jackson, David Severn, Rick Lodge, Steve Noake; music by Alastair Lindsay, Kevin Saville.

Worth knowing
- Advertised as a port of a game that was never ported. Accolade signed with Atari in 1993 to bring five of its titles to the Jaguar — Barkley Shut Up and Jam!, Brett Hull Hockey and Bubsy among them — and the plan was a straight conversion of Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind. Magazines advertised it as exactly that. Producer Faran Thomason has said the decision changed during development because the original was already old on the market, so Imagitec built a new game with new enemies and a new storyline on top of the Sega Genesis source code they had been given.
- One of its artists is not in the credits. Imagitec Design of Dewsbury, founded 1986, had already made The Humans and converted Raiden for the Jaguar. Andrew Seed did the bulk of the programming and Jody Cobb designed it. Game artist Shaun McClure drew some of the enemies and went uncredited entirely.
Before you buy
Common and cheap despite the sales history — plenty survived. Cross-audience demand from Bubsy collectors keeps it liquid. No counterfeit concern.

Buying a Jaguar cartridge
Cartridges are the durable half of this library — the risk is provenance, not decay. The platform has an active post-commercial scene, so the question is usually which era a cartridge is from rather than whether it still works.
- Ask for a photo of the label edge and the cartridge back. Reproductions are usually printed on adhesive photo stock and sit proud of the label recess.
- Donor shells are the common trick: sanding marks on the back, or adhesive ghosting where an older label was lifted, are the strongest signals.
- Cartridges are region-free on this platform, so a cheaper PAL copy plays on a North American console — a price difference is not evidence of a fake.
