About Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now
Max is back!! Bigger and bader than ever before!!!! Stainless/SCi announces the release of the eagerly awaited sequel to its 1997 smash hit Carmageddon, Carmageddon 2 - Carpocalypse now. Carmageddon 1 was released last year amongst "just a tiny bit" of controversy, with calls to "ban this killer car game" from the media around the world, and then went on to prove its critics wrong by scooping a body bag full of awards from around the globe. Developed once again, by the patients of Parkhurst prison's clinically insane wing, known as Stainless Software, Carmageddon 2 - Carpocalypse Now, is destined to make computer gaming history again. Let's face it, Carmageddon 1 caused a blood storm in a teacup, this time prepare for a full-on tidal wave. Carmageddon 2 - Carpocalypse Now will take players to the next level of gameplay, whether you are trying to hold down your lunch after taking out those pedestrians waiting for a bus, or franticly trying to re-build your car after having your butt kicked by one of the GAME'S AI opponents, Carmageddon 2 - Carpocalypse Now will take you to the edge and further as you race your way through 1998's greatest driving game.

A vehicular-carnage port that split opinion sharply, and one of the priciest North American carts in the library.
Carmageddon 64 is the Nintendo 64 version of Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now, the PC game from Stainless Games. The N64 port was made by Software Creations. The PAL version was released in 1999 and the North American cartridge followed in July 2000. Next Generation's October 1998 preview listed it as a Q1 1999 title, describing the series as a gory racer that rewards players for killing bystanders.
Opinion on the port ran to extremes. N64 Magazine scored it as its lowest-rated game until 2004, while Hyper rated it highly and called it a success, arguably more suited to the N64 than the PC original because of its silly arcade-style action. It was also nominated for the Worst Game award in GameSpot's 2000 end-of-year awards.
How it was made
The N64 port was developed by Software Creations, from the PC game by Stainless Games.
Before you buy
The North American cartridge ranks among the most expensive carts in the library loose, and a complete copy costs more again. The fake risk is medium, so ask the seller for a photo of the board, which is the reliable test; a cart that boots proves nothing. PAL copies cost a small fraction of the US price.
