A cheerful tongue-swinging 3D platformer that earns its place as an amusing diversion, and one of the pricier carts of 1997.

Chameleon Twist is a 3D platformer developed by Japan System Supply. Sunsoft published it in North America and Europe, and Japan System Supply released it in Japan; the North American and Japanese releases landed within days of each other in December 1997. You play one of four chameleons across six themed worlds, using an elongated tongue as a weapon, to cross gaps and to swing onto platforms.

Next Generation previewed it in May 1997 as a cutesy Mario-style adventure with Bionic Commando-like mechanics, and expected an amusing if obvious diversion. A sequel, Chameleon Twist 2, followed.

How it was made

Developed by Japan System Supply, with Hideyuki Nakanishi credited as designer.

Before you buy

The North American cartridge is the one priced here and it is one of the dearer carts of its year, sitting above the median for the library. PAL and Japanese copies are separate releases and each costs roughly half as much, loose and complete. The fake risk is low. The Rumble Pak is optional, and a complete copy costs several times the loose price.
