An arcade-style helicopter shooter that is happier blowing things up than simulating anything, and a cheap try for the genre.

Chopper Attack is a third-person helicopter shooter developed by SETA and published in North America by Midway. It came out in Japan first, as Wild Choppers, in November 1997, and in North America in June 1998. Electronic Gaming Monthly's July 1998 preview described mission-based objectives, fiery destruction and some strange Rambo humor, and noted that freedom from the restraints of a serious simulation let you roam and blow things up.

Not everyone was won over. A GameFan writer recalled in January 2000 buying it expecting the aerial combat of EA's Strike series and regretting it.

“So Wild Choppers is the N64 magazine flight combat game we'd go for, then. It'll provide many hours of helicopter-based fun.”

— N64 Magazine, January 1998

“Chopper Attack is nothing spectacular, but it is fun and worth a rental.”

— Game Informer, June 1998

Before you buy

This is the North American cartridge. The Rumble Pak is supported but optional. The PAL release costs noticeably more than the North American cart, the Japanese release costs about the same loose and more complete, and fake risk is low on a cart at this price. A complete copy costs several times the loose price, and sealed copies cost more again.
