First release on each platform, from IGDB’s records of this game’s ports and editions. Remakes are separate games with their own pages, so they are not listed here.

We haven’t priced or authenticated the versions without a section on this page yet.

Prices are per version and are not interchangeable, and neither are the reviews: conversions in this era were often built by a different studio than the original, so a score earned on one machine says nothing about how another plays.

The Neo Geo Pocket Color version

Taito's train simulator, shrunk to two buttons, and stranger for it.

Densha de GO! is about hitting your marks and stopping precisely at the platform, and it was a genuine phenomenon in Japan. The handheld version is a real conversion rather than a spin-off, and it is oddly compelling once you understand what it wants from you.

The menus and route information are in Japanese, but the core loop is legible without reading much — which makes it one of the few Japan-only cartridges a non-reader can genuinely enjoy.

Before you buy

Inexpensive and one of the more approachable Japanese imports on the platform, precisely because the gameplay does not depend on text.

The Nintendo 64 version

Taito's Japanese train-driving simulator on the Nintendo 64: a niche import for fans of the series, with a Beginner Mode that only this version has.

Densha de Go! 64 is the Nintendo 64 version of Densha de Go! 2 Kosoku-hen, a train simulator that started in Japanese arcades in 1998. It was developed by A.I and published by Taito, and it came out in Japan only, on July 30, 1999.

The Nintendo 64 version adds a Beginner Mode that gives the player 999 seconds to complete either the Training Course or the Practice Course. A fan-made translation patch also exists that converts the HUD and menus to English.

Before you buy

This is the Japanese cartridge, and the game came out only in Japan. Loose it sits above the median for Japan-only games, and the fake risk is low. A complete copy costs noticeably more than a loose cart. The menus are in Japanese.
