About Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf

The player controls the helicopter from an overhead, isometric perspective. The Apache is equipped with three weapon types: a machine gun and two types of missiles of different strength. During the missions, the player must beware anti-aircraft guns, missile launchers and tanks, outmaneuvering enemy fire or destroying the enemy weaponry. The Apache is destroyed if its fuel runs out, or if the armor (functioning as health) is completely depleted. However, armor can be replenished by bringing back MIA soldiers and prisoners of war back to the landing zone. There are also fuel, ammo and armor pickups available on the field.

Published by Telegames in 1993 during the Lynx's Atari-era licensed run. The isometric helicopter campaign is a demanding thing to fit on a handheld of this generation, and this version holds together — the sprite scaling the Lynx did in hardware is doing visible work here.

Its complete-in-box price is well over double loose and sealed copies command a large multiple again, putting it firmly in the group where the packaging is the asset. Never re-released.

The cartridge itself is a low-risk buy. Complete copies are where to slow down: verify the manual and inserts, and treat a pristine box around a worn cart as the warning sign it usually is.
