Don Bluth's laserdisc landmark, playing exactly as it always did — which people find nostalgic or intolerable, with no middle ground.
Feature-quality hand-drawn animation and gameplay consisting almost entirely of timed inputs or death. The Jaguar version looks the part because it IS the original animation. Near-invariably collected together with Space Ace — cross-link them.
Worth knowing
- Daphne was redesigned by an ex-Disney animator, and voiced by the clean-up department. Princess Daphne was first created by Rick Dyer's team at Advanced Microcomputer Systems, then completely redesigned by Don Bluth, who had left Disney to set up his own studio. The budget was tight enough that her in-game vocals were not recorded by an actress at all — they were supplied by Vera Lanpher, who ran the studio's clean-up department. A professional voice actress, Ellen Gerstell, only took the role for the later cartoon series.
Before you buy
Franchise recognition brings buyers from outside the Jaguar audience. Jaguar-specific publisher credits are murky in databases — describe from the disc and packaging in hand. Test-played or discounted.

Buying a Jaguar CD title
Jaguar CDs are the most fragile discs of their generation, and the reason is structural rather than bad luck: Atari built a proprietary format on the audio-CD spec instead of standard CD-ROM. Capacity rose to roughly 790MB, but error correction fell.
- Light scratches that a PlayStation disc shrugs off can make a Jaguar CD unreadable. Treat "light scratches, plays fine" with more scepticism here than on any other platform.
- Only buy discs that have been test-played on real hardware — emulator testing proves nothing about a marginal disc.
- Confirm the Memory Track cartridge is included or already owned: most Jaguar CD titles cannot save without it, and it is routinely missing from used listings.
- Check the jewel case hinges and tray teeth. Replacement cases are common and are not a fault, but a swapped case often travels with swapped inserts.
What a complete copy includes
- Disc, jewel case and back insert
- Manual
- Any pack-in disc the title shipped with — the Tempest 2000 soundtrack CD and the Myst demo disc are the two most often missing from "complete" listings
