An early N64 3D fighter that is better known for its bad reputation than for its fights.

Dual Heroes is a 3D fighting game developed by Produce! and published by Hudson Soft in Japan (December 1997), Gaga Interactive Media in Europe (April 1998) and Electro Brain in North America (November 1998).

In May 1997 Next Generation called it Hudson's first stab at 3D fighting and said that, if the gameplay matched the animation, the N64 might have its first good 3D fighter. It did not earn that reputation: it has often been mocked for its gameplay, controls and fighting mechanics, and an Australian Nintendo magazine poll named it the worst game ever.

“But, as with a few N64 titles recently, the end result fails to live up to the expectations.”

— N64 Magazine, February 1998

“Yes, Dual Heroes' gameplay is very poor. As I mentioned earlier, there's too many flashing lights and bright colours, not enough subtly or tact.”

— Total 64, 1998

Before you buy

The US cartridge sits about at the library median when loose, with a complete copy costing several times as much. PAL copies cost more than US ones, and Japanese copies cost much less. The fake risk is low. This is a curiosity buy rather than a must-have.
