A four-player dating-sim party game, text-heavy and pricey, for Japanese readers and collectors of odd N64 releases.

Getter Love!! is a dating-sim party game developed and published by Hudson Soft, released in Japan in December 1998 and nowhere else. Four players compete to be the first to get a girlfriend by successfully romancing their female classmates. Designer Kokoro Nakamura came up with the idea in December 1995, while trying to think of a four-player competitive game for the new console.

It is a Japanese-language game and a text-heavy one. N64 Magazine and Total Control, reviewing import copies, found it impossible to play effectively because of the amount of Japanese text. An unofficial fan translation was released in December 2023.

Worth knowing

An idol group to sell it. To promote the game, Hudson arranged an idol group based on its characters. Seven winners were featured in Dengeki Nintendo 64 and The 64 Dream, and a live concert was held in Meguro on December 24, with free admission for subscribers of the magazines.

Before you buy

Fake risk is medium and the cart sits near the top of the library's price range for Japan-only games, so ask for a photo of the board; a cart that boots proves nothing. This is the Japanese cartridge, so there is no other version to choose between. A complete copy costs a good deal more than a loose one.
