A Zelda-flavored 3D adventure based on a TV show, with enough variety to interest completists and more than a few echoes of Ocarina of Time.

Hercules: The Legendary Journeys is based on the television series of the same name. Player 1 developed the Nintendo 64 version and Titus Interactive published it in North America in August 2000 and in Europe that October. The player controls Hercules and his friends Iolaus and Serena on a quest to free Zeus from Ares and Hera. The N64 game is a 3D adventure with platforming and role-playing elements, quite different from the side-scrolling Game Boy Color game of the same name.

Reviews were mixed. Critics praised the variety of what there is to do, but several felt it leaned too closely on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Before you buy

The US cartridge costs more than most of the library and more than the typical 2000 release, so the fake risk is medium: ask for a photo of the board, which is the reliable test, because a cart that boots proves nothing. PAL copies cost about three times as much loose and more than twice as much complete, so the US release is the cheaper route. Complete copies sell for several times the loose price.
