A film-tie-in side-scroller that critics found only okay, and no better than a curiosity.

Judge Dredd is a side-view action game based on the 1995 film, developed by Probe Software and published by Acclaim. This Genesis version came out in North America and Europe on 16 June 1995 and in Japan on 1 September 1995.

In its July 1995 issue Electronic Gaming Monthly called the Genesis game okay, with graphics that were too dark, cheap bosses that you beat by trading hits, and hit detection that made ground enemies hard to strike, and it suggested the Super NES version instead. Next Generation gave the Genesis game three stars out of five.

How the Sega Genesis version differs

Electronic Gaming Monthly's four reviewers were much more critical of the Genesis version, saying it has inferior graphics, sound and, most importantly, control compared with the Super NES version; GamePro also found its graphics and sound inferior.

Next Generation rated the Genesis version three stars out of five.

  • Super NES. Next Generation gave the Super NES version two stars out of five, calling it well animated and tightly designed but not very interesting.
  • Game Boy. Electronic Gaming Monthly said the game translates surprisingly well to the Game Boy, with most levels and graphical effects, but with inferior sound.
  • Atari Jaguar CD. A Jaguar CD conversion was planned for Q4 1995 but went unreleased for unknown reasons.
