A cheap Midway arcade compilation whose emulation drew complaints, and one that needs its own memory card to keep scores.

Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits: Volume 1 is the Nintendo 64 edition of a two-volume compilation developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Midway, released in North America in November 2000. The N64 and Dreamcast versions each included two exclusive games.

The first volume on Dreamcast, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 64 was criticized for poor sound and visual emulation. It is a collection for people who want the old arcade games on a real N64, rather than the best way to play them.

What the press said at the time

“The quality of Midway's six-pack just pips Namco Museum, but it's still of limited appeal to most.”

— N64 Magazine, January 2001

“If you're an N64 owner longing for a retro blast, this collection is worth the bucks.”

— GamePro, February 2001

Before you buy

A cheap cart, well below the library median loose, with a low fake risk. The game saves to a Controller Pak rather than to the cartridge, so budget for one if you want to keep your scores. It was released in North America only.
