Acclaim's switch from 2-on-2 to full 5-on-5 basketball, which reviewers liked, and now a cheap cart.

NBA Jam 99 is a basketball game for the Nintendo 64 developed by Iguana West and published under Acclaim's Acclaim Sports label, released in North America on December 3, 1998. The N64 version replaces the series' traditional 2-on-2 play with 5-on-5. Keith Van Horn of the New Jersey Nets is on the cover, Kevin Harlan and Bill Walton do the commentary, and rosters are accurate as of July 1, 1998.

Acclaim could not get the license to use Michael Jordan's name or likeness, so the Bulls have a player called Roster Guard in his place.

“Stick at it, basketball fans, and your initial scepticism and anger will be replaced by a warm feeling inside.”

— N64 Magazine, January 1999

Game Boy Color

  • Game Boy Color. The Game Boy Color version keeps the series' traditional 2-on-2 play instead of the N64 game's 5-on-5, and its reviews were mixed.

Before you buy

A cheap cart: loose copies sit below the library median and the fake risk is low. PAL copies cost less loose and about the same complete. The game saves to a Controller Pak, not to the cartridge, so you need one to keep your progress.
