A one-year roster refresh that Next Generation called last year's game with new rosters and rules, and an inexpensive cart.

NHL Breakaway 99 is Acclaim's hockey game, developed by Iguana West, a sequel to NHL Breakaway 98, with Steve Yzerman of the Detroit Red Wings on the cover. It reached North America in late 1998.

Next Generation (February 1999) rated it two stars out of five, calling it nothing more than last year's version with the new rosters and rules, and suggested that N64 hockey games were required to stay the same from year to year.

How it was made
