About Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber
"Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber is a tactical RPG for the Nintendo 64. Featuring a gripping storyline with multiple possible endings, and a genre-defining character class system, this strategic epic has rightly retained its place in the hearts of tactical RPG fans for over a decade. The game tells the story of Magnus Gallant, a recently graduated officer of the Palatinean Army who is assigned to the troubled southern region of his native land. There he witnesses the plight of the lower classes – the victims of a tyrannical ruling elite whose only thought is for the preservation of their own lofty status. With civil war brewing, Magnus is faced with a terrible choice: to betray his own noble origins in the name of liberty, or turn a blind eye to the evils of his rotten society."

A big, deep real-time tactics RPG, and one of the highest-priced carts in the library, with documented fakes.
Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber is a real-time tactical role-playing game from Quest Corporation, the third in its series. Nintendo published it in Japan in July 1999, and Atlus USA published it in North America in October 2000. It began development before 1997 under the working title Ogre Battle Saga, and it is credited as the second-largest N64 cartridge, at 320 megabits.
GameFan, previewing the Japanese release in October 1999, noted that nearly every unit was carried over from its predecessor, with only a few newcomers such as groups of pikemen. It was nominated for best console strategy game at the 2000 Blister Awards, and Time Extension put it on its 2023 list of the best N64 games.
How it was made
Developed by Quest Corporation. Koji Takino is credited as designer, and Hayato Matsuo, Masaharu Iwata and Hitoshi Sakimoto with the music.

“we can only rate Ogre Battle as great, but not really great — without a story to follow, the endless battles began to merge into one.”
“A agree combination of thoughtful strategy and exciting combat, with an RPG plot to draw the player into the action.”
“Ogre Battle 64 is a shining example as to how an RPG should be localized. … oh, and the game's pretty good too.”

Before you buy
Fakes of this cartridge are documented by multiple independent sources, so treat the fake risk as high and ask for a clear photo of the circuit board before you pay. Genuine copies have a white, surface-mount board, so a white board is not a sign of a fake here; a cart that boots proves nothing. The game saves to a battery inside the cartridge, so a replaced battery is a normal repair, not a sign of a fake. The Japanese cartridge is a separate release and costs a small fraction of the US price, loose and complete, so it is the economical choice if you can read it. The US release came out in 2000, when carts generally cost more, and this one is among the priciest in the library.
