About Rat Attack!

Play as one of the Scratch Cats, an elite superhero team, who are out to save the world from Washington and Jefferson, two evil mutant space rats who wish to enslave the world in rats. Explore each puzzle level and wipe out the rat threat. First you need to catch the rat, using the Eraticator. Then you must find the Destructor pad in each level in order for the rat to be taken out. Each level has a quota of rats you must remove, and if you fail to do so within the time limit (which, in this case, is when the rats destroy everything in the level), you lose.

A simple cat-versus-rat puzzler that is now one of the priciest cartridges in the library.

Rat Attack! is an arcade-style puzzle game in which a group of Scratch Cats stops an invasion of evil mutant space rats. Pure Entertainment developed it and Mindscape published it. It came out first on the PlayStation in 1999, and the Nintendo 64 version followed in 2000, in PAL regions in April and in North America in September.

The N64 version was slightly altered from the PlayStation original, with one character swapped, so the mysterious cat in King Scarab's clutches is Atomicat rather than Banubis, and a series of levels changed. N64 Magazine called it a simple, well-executed puzzle game with cats trying to catch rats. IGN's Fran Mirabella III compared the premise of catching and disposing of rats to Ghostbusters.

  • Windows. A Windows port followed in 2005 in Italy and in July 2007 in the UK.

Before you buy

This is among the priciest carts in the library, so fake risk is moderate: ask for a photo of the circuit board, which is the reliable check, because a cart that boots proves nothing. PAL copies cost somewhat less loose than the North American cart but far more complete. A complete copy costs many times the loose price, and sealed copies cost more again.
