A Japan-only N64 cartridge version of the city-builder, for players comfortable with Japanese text.

This is the Nintendo 64 version of Sim City 2000, a Japan-only release on January 30, 1998, produced and published by Imagineer. The original city-building game was made for personal computers in 1993 by Will Wright and Fred Haslam of Maxis, and this cartridge was developed by Maxis and Genki.

Next Generation's May 1997 preview pages listed it as a rumored Nintendo 64DD title. The released game was a cartridge. It is a Japanese-language release.

What the press said at the time

“Overall, Sim City 2000 is a quality title - make no mistake about it - but unfortunately most of the subtleties are lost because of the Japanese text.”

— Total 64, 1998

Before you buy

Only the Japanese cartridge exists, so there is no other version to choose between. It sits above the median for Japan-only games, and fake risk is low. A complete copy costs about double the loose price, and sealed copies cost far more.
