A colorful 3D platformer in widescreen that sells for far more in North America than in Europe.

Starshot: Space Circus Fever is a platformer from Infogrames, one of the few Nintendo 64 games to support 16:9 widescreen. It reached PAL regions in December 1998 and North America in June 1999, after a delay.

Next Generation's October 1998 preview described it as a colorful 3D platformer starring Starshot, a traveling performer for an intergalactic version of the Greatest Show on Earth, with freedom to move through a variety of cute worlds, and noted that it had a decidedly French look and feel.

“The graphics may attract players initially, but the poor mechanics will make it difficult for them to enjoy the experience for long.”

— Nintendo Power, July 1999

Nintendo Power was Nintendo of America's own magazine, so its reviews are the console maker's view of its platform. Undated scores are from the review table in the game's Wikipedia article, limited to reviews of the Nintendo 64 version.

Before you buy

The North American cart is one of the pricier carts in the library, and fake risk is moderate: ask for a photo of the circuit board, which is the reliable check, because a cart that boots proves nothing. The PAL release costs far less than the North American one, both loose and complete. A complete North American copy costs a few times the loose price, and sealed copies cost more again.
