About Super Bowling

Super Bowling is a third-person bowling game. Players may bowl in several different environments, which range from ice ponds to neon-lit Chinese temples. Players can face-off against characters in their home stages, much like a fighting game. If the player wins they can then play on these stages in other play modes. Multi-player modes are also available, with a number of different variations. The game was also released as a downloadable game for the Satellaview.

A late 3D remake of an old Athena bowling game that is among the most expensive carts in the whole library.

Super Bowling started as a 1992 Super NES game. The Nintendo 64 version is a 3D remake, released in Japan in March 1999 by Athena and in North America in 2000 by UFO Interactive Games. It came out late in the console's life, and complete copies have since become sought after.

As a game it is a bowling title. If you only want to play, the Japanese cartridge is a separate release that costs a fraction of the US one.

What the press said at the time

“Yes, it's a bowling game. But someone out there's spent a long time making sure it's fun.”

— N64 Magazine, July 1999

“By rights, this should be eyelid-droopingly dull. But Athena's attention to detail makes Super Bowling an unexpected pleasure.”

— N64 Magazine, May 2001

“Top it off with a lively sound track — you’ve got the most innovative and interesting bowling title in years.”

— Nintendo Power, April 2000

Nintendo Power was Nintendo of America's own magazine, so its reviews are the console maker's view of its platform.

Before you buy

The US cart's loose price is higher than 99% of the library's North American games, and complete copies cost several times more again. Treat the fake risk as medium and ask for a clear photo of the circuit board before you pay; a cart that boots proves nothing. The Japanese release costs a small fraction of the US loose price.
