A 3D arena fighter that reviewers called botched, and a loose cart priced well above the library median.

Transformers: Beast Wars Transmetals is a 3D fighting game based on the Beast Wars cartoon, and the N64 version was developed by Locomotive Corporation. Takara published it in Japan in 1999 as Transformers: Beast Wars Metals 64, and Bay Area Multimedia published it in North America in 2000. The North American release was a Blockbuster Video exclusive that was initially only available for rental. It plays in a flat 3D arena, has arcade-mode endings for each character and an original secret boss, Megatron X.

Reviews were poor. IGN's reviewer called the N64 game a botched take on Virtual On, criticizing the balance but concluding it was not awful.

Before you buy

The US cart sells well above the library median loose, and complete copies cost many times more again, so the fake risk is medium: ask for a photo of the board before you pay. The Japanese release, Beast Wars Metals 64, is a separate cartridge and costs far less loose and far less complete.
