A solid rally racer that reached North America nine months after Europe and was judged against tougher rivals for it.

V-Rally: Edition '99 is the Nintendo 64 version of Infogrames' V-Rally, developed by Eden Studios. It came out in the PAL regions in December 1998, in North America in September 1999 and in Japan in October 1999, with Infogrames and Spike credited as publishers. It was shown at ECTS in 1998 and Nintendo Space World in 1999.

Reviews were friendlier in Europe than in North America. IGN observed that the North American release might have been judged differently a year earlier, before World Driver Championship and Beetle Adventure Racing set the bar.

What the press said at the time

“V-Rally is the best straight driving game on the N64. It's not as technically accomplished as F1 World Grand Prix (not by a long way), but it’s a less fiddly, more immediate driver”

— N64 Magazine, December 1998

“V-Rally really shines out as a quality racer that requires not a little perseverance to master, which is after all no bad thing. If you want a quality wheel-based racer then V-Rally is the game.”

— Total 64, 1998

Before you buy

Low fake risk. The US cart sits about at the library median on price, and PAL copies cost less than half as much, loose and complete. Japanese copies cost roughly half the US price. A complete copy costs several times the loose price.
