The widest review spread on the platform — 30/100 or 91/100 depending on which magazine you trusted.

A French-developed skiing and snowboarding game whose era reviews diverged so wildly (30 to 91 out of 100) that the spread itself is the story — nobody could agree whether the loose, momentum-heavy handling was simulation or sloppiness. It sold 9,751 copies by April 1995, second-worst of the documented figures, and was among the few titles Japan's import channel carried.

How it was made

Virtual Studio developed the Atari Jaguar version. Credited: designed by Dragan Nestorowski, Philippe Olive; programmed by Vincent Baillet, Olivier Richez, Philippe Tesson; art by Constantin Maschas, Cyril Masquillière, Vincent Duranton; music by Dimitri Bodiansky, Michel Winogradoff, Steve Morgan.

Worth knowing

  • Made by the Tommy Moe team, at a company going under. It was built at Virtual Studio by the same people who had made Tommy Moe's Winter Extreme: Skiing & Snowboarding for the Super NES. Programmer Vincent Baillet, who handled the slope rendering, sprites and sound effects, has discussed the trade-offs of the Jaguar hardware against the SNES he had just come from — and left the company partway through, when its parent Loriciels went bankrupt.

Before you buy

Common and cheap in NA/EU; the Japanese-channel copy is the scarce one. No counterfeit concern.

Buying a Jaguar cartridge

Cartridges are the durable half of this library — the risk is provenance, not decay. The platform has an active post-commercial scene, so the question is usually which era a cartridge is from rather than whether it still works.

  • Ask for a photo of the label edge and the cartridge back. Reproductions are usually printed on adhesive photo stock and sit proud of the label recess.
  • Donor shells are the common trick: sanding marks on the back, or adhesive ghosting where an older label was lifted, are the strongest signals.
  • Cartridges are region-free on this platform, so a cheaper PAL copy plays on a North American console — a price difference is not evidence of a fake.
