Half of the Jaguar's entire four-player library — that's the listing hook.

Trimark Interactive licensed the film from Fox and commissioned High Voltage Software for two-on-two streetball, hiring the Jesse White Tumbling Team for motion capture — a real production choice on a game most people dismiss unseen. Reception was mixed then and now, but it's one of only two games supporting the Team Tap multitap, and buyers building a four-player Jaguar setup have exactly two software options.

Worth knowing

  • "The worst basketball experience since watching the Clippers". GamePro's Johnny Ballgame reviewed it in December 1995 under the headline "White Men Never Gets Off the Ground", and the verdict was that poor control, bad graphics and annoying sound made it exactly that. He noted the game carries the licence but neither of the actors who made the film worth watching, and that pressing Pass sometimes simply does nothing.
  • A rule that punishes you for scoring. The same review flags a specific design decision: after every basket you must take the ball out under the hoop and carry it back to the three-point line to clear it, or the points do not count — by which time, this being street ball, the defender has punched your lights out and stolen it. He adds that air balls and bricks reign supreme even from directly under the bucket, that a player shooting from the top of the key blocks the rest of the screen, and that the soundtrack is techno rather than anything resembling a street beat.

Before you buy

Common and cheap. Shipped in a bundle with the Team Tap itself in August 1995 — a bundled copy with the tap is the more interesting object.

Buying a Jaguar cartridge

Cartridges are the durable half of this library — the risk is provenance, not decay. The platform has an active post-commercial scene, so the question is usually which era a cartridge is from rather than whether it still works.

  • Ask for a photo of the label edge and the cartridge back. Reproductions are usually printed on adhesive photo stock and sit proud of the label recess.
  • Donor shells are the common trick: sanding marks on the back, or adhesive ghosting where an older label was lifted, are the strongest signals.
  • Cartridges are region-free on this platform, so a cheaper PAL copy plays on a North American console — a price difference is not evidence of a fake.
