An action game for the Genesis that critics disliked, and one of the pricier US carts.

Wolverine: Adamantium Rage on the Genesis was developed by Teeny Weeny Games and published by Acclaim, reaching North America in November 1994. The Super NES game was developed separately by a different studio, so the two differ in key areas.

The Genesis version is the more action-focused one, with claw attacks and a double jump that rolls Wolverine into a ball. A countdown tells you how close Elsie-Dee is to finding him, and if it runs out you lose one of your five lives. GamePro panned the controls, while Next Generation called it a decent platform brawler but just another one.

How the Sega Genesis version differs

The Genesis and Super NES games were built separately by different London studios and differ in key areas.

The Genesis story has Wolverine trying to discover the secrets of his past through a Weapon X facility, mountains and a jungle, rather than the Super NES route through Canada and Japan.

  • Super NES. The Super NES version requires a set number of enemies to be destroyed before the next area opens.

Before you buy

Among US carts it sits above the middle, and its risk tier is medium, so ask for a photo of the board before paying a collector price. A European cart usually costs much more than the US one, and a complete European copy costs far more.
