About Xevious
It's a nightmare, but it's true! Research shows that we are the actual aliens on Earth, and the ruthless Xevions are the original inhabitants. Now the Xevions want Earth back -- minus humans! Their invasion forces are fierce -- the land is crawling with deadly Domogram Rovers; the sky is black with Toroid Patrol Fleets and Zoshi Death Squads. Our puny weapons offer no defense. Earth's only hope is our powerful new Solvalou Fighter Plane. Its pilot will have a single mission: Penetrate the enemy ranks and destroy the Xevious Mother Ship. The mission is dangerous. We can't guarantee success. But at this point, it's do or die! One small problem. We still need a pilot. Any volunteers?

A launch-era arcade port that period reviewers liked and IGN ranks among the top ten 7800 games, now also reissued as a new cartridge.
General Computer Corporation made the 7800 Xevious and Atari Corporation published it as one of the 7800's launch games. It was promised in 1984, Computer Entertainer's look at the new controller named it among the first games to use the two fire buttons, and the cartridge came out in 1986 as one of the gray-label arcade ports.
Computer Entertainer reviewed it as an adaptation of the Namco arcade game for the 7800 ProSystem, with four skill levels and a Solvalou fighter armed with a Zapper for air targets and a Blaster for ground targets, in a vertically scrolling game. Electronic Games described the same two-weapon setup in 1984. IGN named it the ninth greatest 7800 game. It plays for one or two players and is on Atari 50.
What the press said at the time
| Computer Entertainer Vol. 5 No. 10 | January 1987 | Graphics ♦♦♦♦ · Play-Action ♦♦♦ |
“XEVIOUS features excellent, detailed graphics … Gameplay is highly challenging and will certainly appeal to fans of the”
Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — diamonds through early 1987, stars after — comparing each game only with other games for the same system.
How the Atari 7800 version differs
Electronic Games previewed the 7800 Xevious in 1984, saying the home edition was said to have a playfield as extensive as the arcade game's.
Computer Entertainer praised the 7800 game's detailed graphics but faulted the manual, which lists 21 enemy types with point values and no pictures.

| NES | Bandai (publisher) |
- NES. Computer Entertainer called Bandai's NES version the only home version that truly duplicates the arcade music and sound effects, and the best of the versions it had played.
Worth knowing
- From the 7800 manual. Four skill levels.
Before you buy
A new official Xevious cartridge from Atari and PLAION was released in November 2025 and plays on an original 7800, so a sealed copy is far more likely to be the reissue. The sourced check is the manual: an original reads Atari Corporation, Sunnyvale with a 1980s or 1990 date. The original is common, with the gray label and CX 7810. Pro-Line two-button stick; the Zapper and Blaster sit on separate fire buttons.
