A Jaguar exclusive from more than a year after Atari ceased to exist — the European development programme that refused to stop.
Caspian Software's 2050-set space shooter, released worldwide September 29, 1997 by Telegames — a remake of their own Atari STe game, rebuilt rather than ported. The connective tissue matters: Caspian was commissioned through Atari's European development centre, the January-1995 programme that also produced Attack of the Mutant Penguins. Atari's last coherent software strategy kept generating Jaguar games for two years after Atari was gone.

Worth knowing
- A remake of one of the last Atari ST games ever released. The original Zero 5 shipped for the Atari STe in 1994 — one of the final official releases for a computer platform Atari had already discontinued in 1993. Caspian Software rebuilt it for the Jaguar with Andrew T. Gisby, an author of the original, returning as consultant and voice actor, and composers Dave Newman and James Veal coming back to rescore it using an in-house sound driver they called Zik Tracker.
- The studio was gone before the game came out. Chris Dillon produced, Matthew Gosling led the programming with Dave Pratt and Sean Baggaley, and David Philbedge and Mark Bloomfield did the art. It was the last thing Caspian Software ever made: the company was disbanded before the game reached shops on 29 September 1997, published by Telegames. A PlayStation conversion was attempted and abandoned when no publisher took it.

Buying a Jaguar cartridge
Cartridges are the durable half of this library — the risk is provenance, not decay. The platform has an active post-commercial scene, so the question is usually which era a cartridge is from rather than whether it still works.
- Ask for a photo of the label edge and the cartridge back. Reproductions are usually printed on adhesive photo stock and sit proud of the label recess.
- Donor shells are the common trick: sanding marks on the back, or adhesive ghosting where an older label was lifted, are the strongest signals.
- Cartridges are region-free on this platform, so a cheaper PAL copy plays on a North American console — a price difference is not evidence of a fake.
