About Zool 2
The intergalactic gremlin ninja Zool returns, and this time his enemies in the game were named Krool and his assistant Mental Block, whose goal is to stifle the world's imagination, causing rampant boredom. In his fight Zool is aided by his female companion, named Zooz (in a red costume), and his faithful dog Zoon. The ending contained a hint at a possible further sequel

A competent port that defines the Jaguar's real software story: respectable conversions of games buyers already owned.
Zool was the Amiga's answer to Sonic, and Zool 2 refined it — dense, colorful, fast, with two playable characters, and sprawling collectible-padded levels built on repetition. By 1994 the mascot boom was ending and Zool was a nostalgia act.
Its real significance is categorical: Zool 2 belongs to the Jaguar's largest and least-discussed group — competent ports of Amiga and PC games from one to three years earlier (Cannon Fodder, Syndicate, Theme Park, Flashback, Pinball Fantasies…). Atari couldn't fund original development, so a console sold on being the most powerful thing available mostly ran software built for weaker machines.

How the Atari Jaguar version differs
Unlike the first Zool, the sequel was barely ported: the Amiga stayed lead format and only the Jaguar and MS-DOS received conversions.
Imagitec Design handled the Jaguar version, shown playable at SCES '94. GamePro found it sharper and brighter than the earlier versions of the game.
Sold nearly 11,000 copies as of 1 April 1995.

These are the other versions’ scores, not this one’s. Ports of this era were frequently built by different studios, so they do not transfer.
Worth knowing
- It was meant to be the CD32's pack-in and missed the deadline. Commodore wanted Zool 2 bundled with the Amiga CD32. Gremlin Graphics failed to hit the deadline, so it went into the Amiga 1200's Computer Combat pack in 1994 instead — and the CD32 launched without it. Unlike the first Zool, which went almost everywhere, the sequel reached only two other formats: the Jaguar and MS-DOS.
- A different team, and only the composer stayed. The sequel was built by a new team at The Warp Factory, staffed largely from Gremlin's Harlequin. Of the original Zool crew only composer Patrick Phelan returned. They reworked Zool's design and put his companion Zooz through several revisions before release.
Before you buy
Common and cheap. If you want one platformer on the console, Rayman is far better and it isn't close — buy this for the Amiga-lineage completeness.

Buying a Jaguar cartridge
Cartridges are the durable half of this library — the risk is provenance, not decay. The platform has an active post-commercial scene, so the question is usually which era a cartridge is from rather than whether it still works.
- Ask for a photo of the label edge and the cartridge back. Reproductions are usually printed on adhesive photo stock and sit proud of the label recess.
- Donor shells are the common trick: sanding marks on the back, or adhesive ghosting where an older label was lifted, are the strongest signals.
- Cartridges are region-free on this platform, so a cheaper PAL copy plays on a North American console — a price difference is not evidence of a fake.
