Reception & legacy
Strong launch — outsold Xbox One roughly 2-to-1 globally driven by Sony's clear messaging on used games, DRM, and the $399 price ($100 cheaper than Xbox One)
E3 2013 'How to Share Games on PS4' video (60 seconds, just passing a disc between two players) became a defining marketing moment vs Xbox One's confused DRM messaging; later PSN outages; cross-platform play delays vs other platforms
Best-selling PlayStation since PS2 (~117M+ units); cemented Sony's narrative dominance in the 2010s; first-party studios produced what many consider PlayStation's peak narrative era
